About the Externship

The BUILD (Bridging Unity, Inclusion, Leadership & Diversity) Externship is an informational, developmental and highly interactive week-long conference held at our Benton Harbor Technology Center in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Participants experience the culture and rhythms of business, and learn how Whirlpool Corporation creates moments that matter for its employees and customers.

With a commitment to our core value Diversity and Inclusion, BUILD serves as a diverse pipeline for our Leadership Development Program. BUILD provides opportunities to interact with and learn from professionals in Engineering, Supply Chain, Sales, Finance, Human Resources and Manufacturing.

BUILD-undergrads-2017-01The 2018 BUILD Externship will run from Monday, August 6th – Wednesday, August 8th, 2018. During the conference, selected participants are provided housing, transportation, and meals.

Participating in BUILD provides:

  • Mentoring support and introduction to the Leadership Development Programs

Foundational to diversity and inclusion, we strongly encourage candidates from a traditionally underrepresented racial, ethnic or minority group pursuing careers in Business and Engineering apply. Applying candidates must:

  • Have 2-3 years remaining in their education before being eligible for full time employment
  • Be a registered student pursuing an Engineering, Human Resources, Supply Chain, Finance or Sales degree from a 4-year institution
  • Be a United States citizen or Permanent Resident

Application deadline is April 13, 2018.
Final decisions will be made by May 18, 2018 and participants will be notified by June 1, 2018.

What is the purpose of the program?
The BUILD Externship is designed to provide undergraduate minority sophomores and juniors majoring in business and engineering an early exposure to the Whirlpool Corporation brands, careers and recruitment process for our Leadership Development Programs. In our commitment to continually build on diversity and inclusion, the externship seeks to empower women and students of color with the best opportunities for success.
Who can apply?

To be eligible for BUILD, we strongly encourage candidates from traditionally underrepresented racial, ethnic and minority groups pursuing careers in Engineering and Business, as well as:

Are there GPA requirements?
Yes – you must have a 3.0 Cumulative GPA or above
Is transportation, housing, & food provided?
Yes – Whirlpool Corporation will pay for your flight to our location and car service to the hotel where you will be housed for the week.  You are provided breakfast and lunch everyday, dinner most evenings.
Is there an application deadline?

Yes, the application deadline is on April 13, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. EST.

Final decisions will be made by May 18, 2018 and participants will be notified by June 1, 2018.
