Providing young people with access to structured education and recreation opportunities throughout the United States helps improve scholastic performance and leadership development. Boys and Girls Clubs have a proven track record of enhancing the lives of young people and their families, and in turn improving the neighborhoods where these young people reside.
Whirlpool Corporation and our employees have been involved in the Boys and Girls Club of Benton Harbor from the club's beginning in 1998. Club programs and services promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence. Whirlpool Corporation's ongoing partnership with the Boys and Girls Club helps the organization meet their goals and expand their services. Whirlpool employees donate hundreds of hours annually to the Boys and Girls Club of Benton Harbor, volunteering for its Smart Girls and other programs. We also work with the organization by serving as board members for the 2,000 member club, which has a high school graduation rate of more than 90 percent. Whirlpool also sponsors an annual two-day golf outing, which raises approximately $500,000 each year for the Benton Harbor Boys and Girls Club's operating costs. Additionally, we build awareness inside the company and community and support other fundraising activities.
