Resource Efficient Appliances
Whirlpool Corporation continues to play a leading role in the development of innovative technology and high-efficiency home appliance products that save energy and water resources for consumers in markets worldwide.
In the United States, Whirlpool has been an active partner of the ENERGY STAR® Program since August 1998, and has been honored with the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award 10-times (1999 through 2002, 2004 through 2009). During this time, Whirlpool has designed and produced a number of appliance models across seven product categories specifically for the ENERGY STAR program. Our long-term commitment to manufacturing and marketing resource efficient appliances was recognized with special ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence Awards in 2006 through 2009.
We offer consumers a full range of products that consume less energy and water. Whirlpool ENERGY STAR qualified appliances, such as the Whirlpool brand Duet® and CabrioTM washers, and the Maytag Ice2O TM refrigerator, provide exceptional levels of energy efficiency that meet or exceed government guidelines. The new Whirlpool brand Duet® Steam laundry pair saves enough water in a normal wash cycle to fill a 16’ x 20’ x 6’ swimming pool over the course of a year. Currently, Whirlpool manufacturers and markets more than 300 ENERGY STAR qualified major appliances under the Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana and other brand names.
In Canada, Whirlpool also is active in the Canadian ENERGY STAR Program. In recognition of our outstanding work in promoting the benefits of energy efficiency to Canadians, Whirlpool Canada was honored by Natural Resources Canada with the first Special Recognition Award for ENERGY STAR in Canada. The award reflects a long-standing commitment by Whirlpool Canada to set new energy efficiency standards in the appliance industry.
In Brazil, we have been recognized for our broad range of Brastemp and Consul brand kitchen, laundry and air conditioning products that are qualified under the Brazilian government's PROCEL program. And in Europe, we offer consumers a number of energy efficient appliances that meet or exceed energy savings requirements. The Bauknecht SuperEco washing machine consumes approximately 40 percent less energy than traditional washing machines when set to the 60 degrees Celsius SuperEco cycle.
In China, our Sunrise 54L washing machines are Level 1 qualified (the highest level) by the Chinese government’s China Energy Labeling and also qualify as 4 Star Water Efficient by the Australian government’s Water Efficiency Labeling and Standards (WELS) Scheme. These washing machines save more than 30 percent more water and 20 percent more energy than older horizontal access models in China.
As we continue to develop new and innovative products, consumers worldwide will benefit from the improved efficiency and resource savings.
