Habitat for Humanity
Whirlpool provides $100,000 per year to the local Habitat for Humanity chapter for operations and home building. We also provide $50,000 per annum to the state Habitat Chapter to assist all local Habitat Chapters in the state on capacity building and fundraising.
Boys and Girls Clubs of Benton Harbor
Whirlpool, its annual charity golf outing, and its employees provided the majority of the $9 million for 43,000 sq. ft of new facilities, and also annually contributed over $1,300,000 or over 65% of the private funds for the Club’s operations.
Three Public School Foundations
Whirlpool, its annual charity golf outing and its employees annually generate between $300- $450,000 for Benton Harbor, Lakeshore and St. Joseph Public School 501(c)3 entities.
First Tee of Benton Harbor
Over $225,000 is provided annually to support the education and programming for over 3,800 diverse youth annually.
Over $150,000 annually for STEM/First Robotics Teams and Equipment, STEM Girl Scouts, Junior Achievement school athletic programs (weight room, new uniforms, training for the Benton Harbor Sports programs) and Young Life programs.
Job Creation and Entrepreneurialism
Whirlpool provides 50% of the funding, up to $1 million annually to focus on community and economic development programs and projects for the local community.
Of the 250 positions available through the Harbor Shores operations, including the Inn, 45% of these jobs are filled by low to moderate income individuals, with a structured program for community members who have recently been released from prison.
Benton Harbor/Michigan State Police Data Programming
Whirlpool provides the $50,000 local match needed to have two state police officers embedded with the Benton Harbor Police to fund an analytics program to improve community policing programs for the community.
Michigan’s Great Southwest Strategic Leadership Council (MGSSLC) (successor to the Council for World-Class Communities organization)
Whirlpool provides 100% of the costs for the staffing and operations of the Council which brings together over 125, not for profit agencies, community organizations, public officials, health leaders and business organizations to prioritize and work collaboratively on key initiatives within the community.
MGSSLC Leadership Accelerator Program
Whirlpool provided 100% of the costs for the first five years of a program (now funded by Whirlpool and various other community supporters) that brings diverse young leaders together within the community to provide structured training and immersion programs to develop skills while identifying the challenges within the community that must be addressed.
