Since Whirlpool brand’s Smart Top Load Washer and Dryer rolled out in 2015, the two appliances have won notable accolades for using connected technology. Now both have garnered praise for being energy efficient.
Green Builder® magazine, the building industry’s leading magazine focused on green building and sustainable development, named the Whirlpool pair to its ‘2016 Hot 50 Products’ list. The magazine commended the washer and dryer’s efficient and connected technology that allow them to integrate with the Nest thermostat. In particular, the magazine complimented the dryer’s ability to switch to the energy-saving Eco Mode when the thermostat is set to the ‘Away’ setting.
In addition to the green features, editors also praised the pair’s ‘Internet of Things’ technology, such as the mobile app which allows consumers to manage wash and dry cycles while away from home. Also, the editors highlighted the philanthropic feature that allows consumers to donate to Habitat for Humanity with every load of laundry through the Connect to Care program.

Green Builder’s target audience includes building professionals in North America. Much of their content focuses on green building, responsible growth and informing builders on how to succeed in the new green economy.
In their 2016 list of winners, Green Builder noted a common theme. More manufacturers are optimizing the efficiency, comfort and performance of their products by integrating connected technology into them. The magazine’s criteria for the appliances included: how they contribute to a home’s durability, energy efficiency and/or resilience; their composition from renewable materials; and, their innovation for the industry.
The Green Builder recognition is just the latest recognition for the Whirlpool Smart Top Load Washer and Dryer. In 2015, the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) awarded the pair its ‘Innovations Award’ in the SmartHome category.
