Whirlpool Corporation Files Complaint with International Trade Commission, Alleging Patent Infringement Related to Microwave Ovens

The company alleges multiple competitors - including Korea-based Samsung, LG and China-owned GE Appliances - illegally copied design for low profile over-the-range microwave.

Whirlpool Corporation today filed a complaint with the U.S. International Trade Commission requesting an investigation into patent infringement related to the company’s   low-profile microwave hood combination products. Whirlpool has requested orders prohibiting the importation and sale of patent-infringing copies of Whirlpool’s innovative low-profile design.

“The microwave, unlike other microwave hood combinations, is a low profile design that was new to the industry, and exclusive to our brands," said Michael Gross, Whirlpool Corporation senior vice president of product marketing and merchandising. “This design enables consumers to reclaim countertop space and while also increasing cabinet space above the range.”

Whirlpool Corporation dedicates substantial resources to product development, and the company will not hesitate to defend our innovation and intellectual property.
